Uprooted
For a long time, hardly anyone spoke about them: children who were abducted from their home countries, such as Poland, Czechia, and Ukraine, and taken to Germany during the Second World War. The National Socialists wanted to “forcibly germanise” them and strip them of their origins, language, and families. Many of those children still do not know where their roots lie.
The “Uprooted” project brings these stories back into the light. It tells the stories of people whose identities were stolen and gives their voices a platform. Participants learn more about their life stories and the inhumane ideologies of National Socialism. The project also addresses children’s rights and how we can protect them in today’s world.
We have since expanded our original focus on the fates of children abducted from Eastern Europe during the Second World War. We also address the situation of abducted children from Romania and Belarus, as well as the fates of Greek children under German occupation during the Second World War and during the Greek Civil War. In addition, we are always open to new additions, input, and opportunities for collaboration.

Furthermore, you can borrow our “Uprooted” exhibition for schools and other institutions. We also offer an accompanying workshop for the exhibition.
