10.04.2024  |  Projektausschreibung

Develop skills that allow you to address the topics of refugee movements, migration, borders, and identity in educational activities.

Date: 28th May to 3rd June 2024

Place: Thessaloniki, Greece

What is "Roots and Borders" about?

According to the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, 130 million people are currently displaced globally. This number illustrates the dramatic situation many people are currently facing all over the world.

Roots and Borders is an international, non-formal education training programme focused on the situation of people who have been forced to flee for a variety of different reasons, including war, in a geographically diverse set of contexts. By presenting various methods of non-formal education we want to show how to engage young people on this topic and how to give them a better understanding of the dynamics that shape it.

The training consists of content-related as well as technical and creative workshops. The content part addresses opinion and idea formation and draws on the topics of identity, migration, and flight. The learning process is accompanied by the method “Restorative Circles”, that allows to analyse, comprehend and illustrate how opposing opinions exist in a community and shape it. The technical and creative part introduces the method of participatory photography and provides tools to creatively express diverse thoughts about the topics of the training. Additionally, we will introduce you to a new toolbox that features a range of innovative activities for working with young people on the topic of decolonisation.

As a participant, you will benefit from the exchance with other participants and your trainers, all of whom bring together a wealth of experience. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to join the pool of trainers working with young people in our future "Roots and Borders" youth exchanges.

  • learn to bring together different perspectives on the topic of flight, migration, borders, and identity
